Nathaniel Green Style: Weakerthans meets Dashboard Confessional.
Looked at purely objectively, there are 6 songs on this CD in an
unspectacular cardboard cover, all featuring accoustic guitar, occasionally
complemented by piano, occasionally by harmonica. Looked at subjectively,
this is one of the most beautiful CDs I have been able to lay my hands on in
the last few months, an unprecedented surprise, the sort of record one
rarely acquires but falls for when one does. For these Englishmen have a
feeling for great, quite sad and deeply moving songs which do not need great
effects to get inside the listener. Not unlike The New Ansterdams or
Dashboard Confessional, and occasionally reminiscent of the quiet moments of
The Weakerthans, these short melodies, this wonderful guitar voice, this
cheerful warmth makes it a real gem of a record - a record which is straight
from the heart and makes one painfully aware how many good musicians out
there sink into oblivion - for I've not heard of either the band or their
label (Subjugation) until now, and, unfortunately, most people out there
will not learn how great this record is from this review.
